What We Believe
1. We believe in the Lordship of Jesus Christ (John 1:1-14 & Col. 1:16-20)
We believe Jesus existed with God before He came to earth. He was the creator of the world and the universe and all that is therein. On earth He glorified God, and having pleased God, has been exalted to God's right hand (Acts 7:55). We believe He is Head of the Church, something that no one else has the right to claim. Jesus is Lord and we strive to have people exalt Him in their personal lives and give Him first place in their hearts.
2. We believe the Bible to be the divinely Inspired Word of God (1 Tim. 2:5, 6; 1 Cor. 14:37, 38)
The men of the New Testament believed the Old Testament to be Divinely inspired. This is what they declared (II Pet. 1:21). The New Testament recounts the Old Testament truths, explains them, and heads everything up in Christ. The Scripture become the final court of appeal. This is our final authority for faith and morals. We believe the Bible is the Word of God. If this is true , we have something to hang on to and to guide us; if this is false then where will truth be found?
3. We believe in the Priesthood of Believers (1 Tim. 2:5, 6: II Cor. 5:14-17)
In the Old Testament there was an elaborate priestly system set up. When Christ died on the cross the veil in the temple was rent and the most holy place was open to all men (Matt. 27:51). Hebrews exalts Christ as the great High Priest (Heb. 4:14-16). Christians have direct access to God's Throne of Grace, no minister or priest is necessary as a means of approach.
4. We believe in regenerate Church Membership (John 3:3-6; II Cor. 5:14-17)
It would be absurd for us to deny that there are unsaved people within our ranks. Where will one find a perfect church? Even Judas amoung the early church group betrayed his Lord. But we believe to join a church a person must be Saved, Redeemed, Born Again, use what term you will. We believe that no one should be taken into the church until that person comes of age and commits his life directly himself to God.
5. We believe the Scriptures teach two ordinances which are symbols. (Baptism: Matthew 3; Acts 2:41 Communion: 1 Corinthians 11:23-29)
In the New Testament, men were told to repent of their sins and to believe in Christ. Only on profession of faith were they baptized, which symbolizes being buried with Christ and rising to a new life. Romans 6:3-6 suggests the mode -- immersion. Those who come to believe would assemble to-together at the Lord's Table to show His death until He come.
6. We believe in the Congregational Church Government (1 Cor 1:10; Col. 4:15, 16)
Each Baptist Church is an independent Church. There is no authority beyond the local church. No one sets our doctrine, or ways of worship, or work for us. Each member of our church has one vote. If you join, you have one vote. We vote to work with other churches where we can do a work beyond our ability.
7. We believe in the separation of Church & State (Matt. 22:21)
Through the year there has been religious bitterness, prejudice, and hate. Sometimes when a church becomes powerful enough in a country, it dictates to the Government and uses force to quell religious freedom. Sometimes the Government tells the church what it may or may not preach and teach. We believe that neither one has the right to order the other.
8. We believe in Religious Freedom for all People (John 8:31, 32; Gal. 5:1)
In Christ we have found a great freedom. The greatest is release from sin. Many other freedoms will follow. We do not believe any group has any right to compel others to believe or worship as it may do. If we can lead others to Christ, well and good. But, we believe if they refuse to be Christians, inasmuch as God does not compel, we must not try to compel. If they choose to worship in a different way, it is not ours to force otherwise. "We may not agree with on word others say, but we will fight to the death for there right to say it."
